PayPal CEO/Co-Founder Peter Thiel Endorses Ryan Brumberg

Peter Thiel, CEO and Co-Founder of PayPal, has endorsed Republican candidate Ryan Brumberg for Congress in New York’s 14th District.

Thiel stated: “If you are interested in the economic future of our country, vote Brumberg.”

Ryan Brumberg has already been endorsed by Peter Hort, the 2004 Republican candidate for Congress in New York’s 8th District and former Republican District Leader. In endorsing Brumberg, Hort said, “Ryan Brumberg has worked tirelessly for the Republican party. He embodies the core conservative values we hold dear.”

Interview with Commentary Magazine about the Ground Zero Mosque

How Is the Ground Zero Mosque Playing in NYC?
Jennifer Rubin – 08.20.2010 – 7:45 AM

It takes a perfect storm for the Republicans to win a congressional seat in Manhattan. But there is a storm brewing, so is it possible? Well, it’s not likely, but stranger things have happened.

The NY-14 (the East Side and part of Queens) is rated by Charlie Cook as “solidly Democratic.” Carolyn Maloney was elected in 1992 and really hasn’t faced serious opposition since. However, this year she has a primary challenge and, if she prevails, will face an energetic, likable Republican opponent, Ryan Brumberg. At least on one issue Maloney is badly out of step with her constituents. Unlike several other Democratic colleagues, she’s come out in support of the Ground Zero mosque. In fact, she’s being pushed by her primary challenger to be more vocal in her support. (What is she to do beyond cheerleading – donate money?)

For now, Maloney is trying to change the topic and talk about a bill for additional compensation for 9/11 responders. Brumberg is trying to keep the issue front and center and has been clear in his opposition to the Ground Zero mosque. In a brief e-mail exchange, Brumberg tells me: “I oppose the building of a mosque on ground zero because the Imam refuses to condemn Hamas as a terror organization, and claims that America was partially to blame in the September 11th attacks.” He explains,”Just as the First Amendment grants Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf the right to build his mosque, it also gives us the right to protest its construction. Maloney’s actions are emblematic of a worrisome trend among hardcore liberals: that we need to go beyond granting those we disagree with the right to act, to actively supporting their endeavors and ideology.”

Well, his stance on the Ground Zero mosque is the same as that of Howard Dean, Harry Reid, and 60 percent of New Yorkers. Will it be a key issue in the race? Brumberg argues, “Yes, the September 11th attacks touched the lives of every citizen in this district, and yet Maloney’s support for this Imam shows how out of touch she is.”

On other foreign-policy issues, Brumberg cites the danger of “nuclear proliferation posed by Iran and North Korea” and also the threat posed by ”yawning trade deficits and the increasing American dependence on Chinese capital.” As for domestic policy, he dismisses the idea that we are in a recovery. “The reality of our country’s present economic situation is that as long as Washington continues to waste our precious resources, our economy will never truly recover. We need to unchain America’s economic potential — create jobs and pay down the debt.”

It is not clear that the district is winnable by a Republican. But if there is any year it might be done, this is it. And Brumberg certainly has an opening now that Maloney is providing fodder for the argument that she is out of touch, too liberal even for New York City.

Brumberg Defends Freedom of Speech Against Pelosi

(August 19, 2010 – New York, NY) – Ryan Brumberg, the Republican candidate for Congress in New York’s 14th District, is defending freedom of speech against Nancy Pelosi.

Brumberg stated: “Nancy Pelosi has perverted the idea of individual freedom. It’s hypocritical of her to support the right to build the mosque, but not the right to speak out against it. Pelosi’s actions are emblematic of a worrisome trend among hardcore liberals–to go beyond granting those we disagree with the right to act–to actively supporting their endeavors and ideology. If the First Amendment means anything, it means that we must always have the right to speak up.”

Nancy Pelosi has publicly pressured opposition to the ground zero mosque by calling for investigations into the groups and citizens protesting it. Instead of respecting the constitutionally protected right of Americans to make their voices heard, the Democratic Speaker of the House is trying to silence them.

This Sunday, August 22nd, Ryan Brumberg and supporters will be attending a rally at ground zero. They intend to use social pressure and moral suasion to convince the mosque developers to relocate.

Ryan Brumberg Rangels In A Crook

(August 11, 2010 – New York, NY) – In front of New York City’s Plaza Hotel, Ryan Brumberg and a dozen supporters joined spectators and other protestors in calling for Charlie Rangel to resign.

Ryan Brumberg, the Republican Congressional candidate in New York’s 14th District, stated:  “Charlie Rangel represents everything that is wrong with the corrupt Democratic Congress.  We need citizen legislators, not career politicians.  We need to literally throw the bums in Congress out.”

Despite facing criminal charges and an ethics trial in Congress, Rangel celebrated his 80th birthday with $2400 plate dinners, and a slew of Democratic support.

Brumberg Shines Light on Maloney’s Attempt to Shroud Government Regulators in Secrecy

(July 29, 2010 – New York, NY) – A provision in the recently passed financial-reform legislation will make the SEC exempt from most requests for information disclosure, particularly those filed under the Freedom of Information Act. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, the Democratic incumbent from New York’s 14th District, not only supported the bill, but also served on the conference committee that prepared the final draft of the legislation.

Ryan Brumberg, Maloney’s Republican opponent, slammed the new law. “Senator Dodd explained financial regulation by saying ‘No one will know until this is actually in place how it works.’ Every day we realize how true this statement is. Government transparency lies at the heart of democracy and freedom; yet Nancy Pelosi and her staunch supporter Carolyn Maloney have veiled the SEC in secrecy. We need to stop passing bloated legislation so that people understand the content of the bill before enacting it.”

In other news, the Ryan Brumberg for Congress Campaign held an elegant fundraiser at a private residence in Union Square last evening. The event brought in a substantial number of supporters from all sectors and political affiliations, as well as various media covering the event. The venue was packed as Mr. Brumberg spoke on both his plans to Reboot America once elected.

The general election between Republican Ryan Brumberg and Democrat Carolyn Maloney is November 2nd, 2010.

Brumberg Capitalizes On Anti-Incumbent Sentiment

(July 28, 2010 – New York, NY) – A recently published Gallup poll has put a statistic to the growing national anti-incumbent mood. Only 11% of Americans now place their confidence in Congress. A whopping 89% do not. This figure represents a historic low for Congress and the current incumbents.

In New York’s 14th Congressional District, challengers like Republican Congressional candidate Ryan Brumberg are gaining momentum from incumbents’ flagrant disregard for their constituents. Ryan Brumberg and several of his Democratic volunteers appeared on the program Fox and Friends last Monday, July 19th to discuss the willingness of many Democrats to cross party lines this year.

Asked about the Gallup poll, Ryan Brumberg responded, “11% shows you just how little this Congress has done to address the pressing concerns of Americans. This year is the rare election where anything is possible because the overwhelming majority of our nation is disillusioned with their current representation. We are going to win this election by dedicating ourselves to the issues and interests of the people of New York”.

The Brumberg for Congress Committee is hosting a fundraiser party at a private Union Square residence Wednesday night, July 28th. The event is expected to attract leaders from the financial industry, and include a brief speech by Mr. Brumberg about his plans to stimulate the economy once in office.

The general election is November 2nd, 2010.

Brumberg Tells Maloney To Take A Hike Over Taxes

(July 27th, 2010 — New York, NY) Republican Congressional candidate Ryan Brumberg slammed Carolyn Maloney as a tax-monger for her support of an unprecedented tax-hike in New York’s 14th Congressional District.

The biggest tax increase in recent American history includes 2.5 billion dollars being ripped out of the pockets of New Yorkers and hand-delivered to Washington D.C. by Carolyn Maloney. This translates to an astounding $10,000 increase for every household in the district. This is not a tax on the rich, it will effect the majority of small business in New York.

Brumberg noted, “Our district is now being taxed higher than any other district in the country. Money is being taken from businesses and investors and wasted by Washington. The best way for our representatives to help New York is to stop our tax dollars from going to DC in the first place.”

The tax increase on the 14th District, which includes the East Side of Manhattan, Roosevelt Island, and parts of Queens, dwarfs the increase on the second highest taxed district in America by 60 per cent.

Brumberg continued, “Instead of letting New Yorkers use the $2.5 billion that belongs to them to create jobs and stimulate the economy, Carolyn Maloney continues to hold the party line and vote for Democratic-sponsored legislation an astounding 99 plus per cent of the time.”

The general election is on November 2nd, 2010.
